Holistic care for Stroke Recovery

Stroke Care @ Priyajeewaka Nursing Home

Stroke Care

Priyajeewaka Nursing Home recognizes how hard it is to recover after a stroke. Dedicated to supporting our family members in their journey to regain independence and improve the quality of life, we developed our Stroke Care program.

Stroke Recovery Plan

Each resident's needs are considered when developing a stroke recovery plan that will include:

  1. Initial Assessment: Our multidisciplinary team assesses carefully to understand the extent of stroke and its effects on physical, cognitive, and emotional health.

  2. Goal Setting: We work along with residents and their families for setting realistic and achievable recovery goals.

  3. Personalized Therapy: On assessment, we design a customized therapy plan comprising physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

  4. Regular Monitoring: We are always tracking the progress and will revise the recovery plan to provide the best outcomes possible.

  5. Family Participation: We support the family to participate in the recovery process by giving them education and support to help their loved one overcome difficulties.

Rehabilitation will play a very important role in recovering from a stroke. It involves our team of experienced therapists and caregivers working together to offer patient-tailored rehabilitation plans, including:

  • Physical Therapy: We focus our physical therapy program on strengthening, coordination, and mobility to help our residents regain their physical abilities.

  • Occupational Therapy: Our occupational therapists instruct the residents in how to relearn daily activities and implement new ways to compensate for physical limitations.

  • Speech Therapy: Our speech therapists help those whose speech or swallowing has been impaired by concentrated exercises and techniques that will improve their communication and eating skills.

Rehabilitation Support

Mobility Assistance

Mobility can often be affected when stroke hits a person. At Priyajeewaka Nursing Home, we provide various mobility aids so our residents can move independently and confidently around their surroundings. This includes:

  • Walking Aids: Canes, walkers, wheelchairs—there is a whole lot of variety when it comes to walking aids that we have in store for support in mobility.

  • Transfer Assistance: Our trained staff will assist the residents in repositioning from one place to another, whether it be out of bed to get up, to the bathroom, or into a chair/wheelchair.

Emotional Support

Medication management is one of the critical areas of stroke recovery. We ensure that medications are taken appropriately and timely by our nursing staff. We also:

  • Physician Coordination: We coordinate very closely with your health care providers regarding your medication. Staff monitor and make adjustments as indicated by the physicians.

  • Resident and Family Education: We take time to educate the residents and their families about the medications that are being utilized, their purposes, and possible side effects that may arise.

Medication Management

Recovery from a stroke can be emotionally challenging. At Priyajeewaka Nursing Home, we provide our residents with a nurturing environment to cope emotionally with the recovery process. Some of our emotional support services include:

  • Counseling Services: A professional counselor is provided for support and counseling on an individual basis.

  • Support Groups: We facilitate support groups where residents are allowed to share their experiences and encourage themselves from others who travel on similar journeys.

At Priyajeewaka Nursing Home, the holistic approach in our care for a stroke patient delivers on all aspects of recovery. We stand committed to compassionate and comprehensive care that sustains healing and improves the quality of life of your loved ones.
